Our Mission: Loving Jesus & Loving Others to Jesus

Our Mission

LOVING JESUS, AND LOVING OTHERS TO JESUS. Crossroads Church (formerly Lima Baptist Church) has been serving Christ in the Lima NY and surrounding villages since 1854. We are a community church reaching out both locally and to the world with a strong commitment to worldwide missions.

Our Beliefs

Our beliefs represent the foundation of our faith and are our understanding of what the Bible proclaims as the essentials of Christianity. All of our values, behaviors, teachings and way of life flow out of these statements. Beyond this, we embrace St. Augustine’s philosophy, “In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity.”

As a church, we live this out by:

People like to compart-mentalize God, but following Christ is not a Sunday-only event. It’s a daily life that honors God & encompasses everything we do and are.

Families are busy going in different directions, but we desire whole families to know Jesus and have a place for all to share in the life of the church.

We tend to be independent, but life was meant to be lived connected with others. It’s a connection modeled on the very life of God who exists in community.

We have been called by God to bring the message of Jesus to all people, next door and across the world.

Our Mission & Vision

In Matthew 22:37–40, Jesus teaches that the greatest commandments are to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself. From this passage, known as “The Great Commandment,” Crossroads Church draws its mission: to love Jesus and love others to Jesus. Our vision is to make a lasting difference by loving God, loving people, and living life on purpose. Every service, group, and ministry—from our Pre-K–12 Christian school and summer sports camp to our lunch ministry, prison outreach, and food pantry—exists to help people grow in their walk with Christ. We strive to stay outward-focused, addressing not just social or economic issues but the deeper moral and spiritual needs of our world by sharing Christ’s hope and transforming power. At Crossroads Church, real people with real problems find genuine hope and joy to carry into everyday life.

We Believe

The Bible

The Bible — both Old and New Testaments — is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God; Sufficient for teaching, correction, and training in righteousness.

2 Timothy 3:16-17, Psalm 19:7, Hebrews 4:12

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who took on human flesh. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived without sin and fulfilled the Law perfectly. Through His death on the cross, He bore the penalty for our sins. He rose bodily on the third day, ascended to the Father, and now reigns as Lord and intercedes for His Church.

Isaiah 7:14; John 1:1-14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 7:25

The Trinity

There is one eternal God, existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — who are co-equal in essence and distinct in person.

Matthew 28:19; Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14

Salvation

Salvation is a gift of God by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by works, so that no one can boast. All who repent of sin and trust in Christ are born again, forgiven, and adopted into God’s family.

Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is fully God, indwelling every believer at salvation. He regenerates, comforts, guides, teaches, and empowers believers to live in obedience to Christ and to grow in Christlikeness.

John 14:16-17; Romans 8:9; Galatians 5:22-23

The Church

The Church is the body of Christ, composed of all believers who confess Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Church exists to worship God, proclaim the gospel, make disciples, baptize believers, and build up the body through love and service.

Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47; Ephesians 4:11-13

Christ's Return

Jesus Christ will return visibly and bodily after a period of great tribulation to judge the living and the dead. Believers will be raised and given glorified bodies, and God will dwell with them in the new heaven and earth.

Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4; Revelation 21:1-4

Eternity

Every person who has ever lived will stand before God. Believers in Christ will live forever with God; the unrepentant will face just judgment and eternal separation from God.

John 5:24; Revelation 20:11-15

The Great Commission

Believers are called to live holy lives empowered by the Spirit, to love God and neighbor, to proclaim the gospel to all nations, and to make disciples as Christ commanded.

Matthew 22:37-39; Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:19-20

Baptism & the Lord’s Supper

Baptism by immersion is an outward sign of an inward reality — identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice until He returns. Romans 6:3-4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
